THE DESIGN LANGUAGE: CHARACTERISED BY INNER ASSETS
With the new Astra, Opel continues its new distinctive design language: especially eye-catching is the front section of the coupe-like body, which it owes partly to the new pedestrian protection requirements that stipulate more space between engine and bonnet. To achieve a harmonic transition between the bonnet and the rest of the body, the front roof pillars run relatively shallow – and the windscreen flows correspondingly low. The side section is dominated by a crescent shaped swage line.

HIGH TECH DETAILS, UNIQUE IN ITS CLASS
The new rear axle layout, which has been filed for patent by Opel, provides increased cornering stability, lower noise levels in the cabin and better decoupling from the road, employing design principles borrowed from motor racing. Safety highlights include adaptive forward lighting in which movable elements facilitate optimum illumination of the surroundings and the front camera system that recognizes traffic signs and also provides a warning when the vehicle veers inadvertently out of lane.

AWARD WINNING – SOON AFTER ITS LAUNCH
Numerous press reports and tests accompany the Opel Astra before and during its premiere – and soon afterwards, it was awarded with the sought-after “Goldene Lenkrad 2009”. The award, initiated under the sponsorship of the German high-circulation consumer magazines “Auto Bild” and “Bild am Sonntag”, was awarded for the first time as European prize and acclaims the Opel Astra thereby also as best in its class.

WIDE ENGINE RANGE FOR HIGH FUEL EFFICIENCY
The extensive engine range comprises 9 engines that all comply with the Euro 5 standard. In the diesel range, Opel offers 4 Common Rail engines from 1.3 to 2.0 litres displacement with 70 kW (95 hp) to 118 kW (160 hp) and diesel particulate filters. Alternatively, 5 petrol engines are available with 1.4 or 1.6 litre and 74 kW to 132 kW (100 to 180 hp). The engines are designed according to the downsizing principle and offer road performances that were only reserved for engines with larger displacements up to now. MAHLE contributes to environmentally friendly, low emission driving pleasure with pistons, piston rings and piston pins, connecting rods, bearings, camshafts, valves, valve seat inserts, valve guides, oil mist separators, oil filters and activated carbon canister modules.

MAHLE ENGINE COMPONENTS AND MAHLE FILTERS ARE USED IN VEHICLES AND ENGINES OF THE FOLLOWING BRANDS:

PORSCHE PANAMERA

4 comfortable sport seats, large rear lid, large boot with low loading sill – the new Porsche Panamera scores with a sound space concept and intelligent proportions that take care of a low centre of gravity and therefore high quality driving dynamics. The Panamera is either available with a V8 naturally aspirated engine or a turbo engine with 294 kW (400 hp) and 368 kW (500 hp) respectively, with air intake modules, air filters, activated carbon canister modules, camshafts, valves, connecting rods as well as pistons and piston pins from MAHLE.

SAAB 9-5
The design of the new Saab flagship convinces with new rounded contours, a high belt line and powerful apron. Headlights with silver edges, LED rear lights and a connecting light bar provide fresh looks. In addition, the 9-5 comes with technical details such as the automatic traffic sign recognition. 5 turbo engines with up to 221 kW (300 hp) are available. Also under the bonnet: camshafts, valves, valve seat inserts, valve guides, connecting rods and oil mist separators from MAHLE.

PEUGEOT 5008
The new compact MPV Peugeot 5008, which is with 4.53 m length one of the largest in its class, provides generous interior space with 7 seats. By contrast, the four available engines offer appropriately low fuel consumption. The versatile family vehicle is fitted with lots of MAHLE equipment: oil filter modules, fuel filters, activated carbon canister modules, valve seat inserts, camshafts, pistons, piston rings and piston pins, cylinder liners as well as bearings.

VW GOLF BLUEMOTION
With 77 kW (105 hp), the VW Golf BlueMotion scores points with extremely low fuel consumption and emission values. This is achieved through a multitude of technological innovations such as the high geared five speed manual transmission, the gearshift indicator, regenerative braking as well as the startstop system, low rolling resistance tyres, especially light and aerodynamic wheels or the aerodynamically redesigned body. MAHLE supports the fuel saving concept with air intake modules, air filters, oil filter modules, valves, pistons as well as connecting rods.

ŠKODA YETI
Off-road charm, unpainted bumpers fit for the outdoors and a distinctive name characterise the new all-rounder from Škoda. According to the manufacturer, the Yeti combines the best features of an estate car with the advantages of an off-road vehicle. The powerful 1.5-ton vehicle is available in 2 petrol versions and 3 Common Rail diesel engine versions. Pistons, piston rings and piston pins, valves, air intake modules as well as air filters are supplied by MAHLE.

JAGUAR XJ
Ian Callum, designer of the Jaguar XJ, sees his new model as the synthesis of tradition and innovation. Especially the spectacular aluminium body impresses with a respectable portion of futurism. Tributes to tradition are the vertically sweeping rear lights and the C-pillars hidden behind black glass panels. Driving comfort is provided by the air suspension and the gentle V8 engines, which are equipped with air intake modules, air filters, intake manifolds, valve seat inserts, valve guides, connecting rods, piston rings and bearings from MAHLE.

MERCEDES-BENZ ML
After 4 years of M-Class, the ML has now been launched – with refreshed design and significantly reduced fuel consumption. According to the manufacturer’s description it is “the worlds cleanest diesel SUV”, utilising urea injection to minimise nitrogen oxides and “offers as a 6-cylinder the consumption of a 4-cylinder and the power of a V8”, as the Mercedes-Benz R&D department puts it strikingly. Pistons, piston rings and piston pins, cylinder liners, camshafts, valves, valve seat inserts, valve guides, air filters, oil mist separators, oil filters, fuel filters and activated carbon canister modules from MAHLE are doing their work under the bonnet of the ML.
